Dutch Rococo Overmantel in Carved Wood, ±1740

Description

This Dutch overmantel, dating from around 1740 and spanning the Rococo-Transition to Régence period, is crafted from fine wood carving. It features a central ornament in the shape of a VOC ship, referencing Dutch maritime history.

The central panel is painted with an image of Venus in grisaille or ‘whiteware’ style, giving it a refined and subtle appearance. This technique highlights the delicate details with an elegant gray tone.

This overmantel is a perfect addition to an 18th-century farmhouse and enhances the historical charm of a traditional interior.
